TK11

The MATinspired TK11 Chromium-6 Detection Test Kit is used for the detection of chromium-6 in surface contamination, dust particles, paint layers, coatings or other materials. Chromium-6 is also known as chrome(VI), chromium(VI), Cr(VI), Cr6+ or hexavalent chromium. It is very harmful, toxic and carcinogenic. The processing (e.g. sanding) of old chromium-6 coatings or paint layers, therefore, poses great health risks, because dust with chromium-6 is released and can then be inhaled or absorbed through the skin.

Chromium-6 can be harmful to human health and the environment. With this kit, you can test the presence of Chromium-6 in paint layers, coatings, surface contamination, dust particles, or other material. Using the kit will produce quick, safe and reliable results, that can assist in ensuring the correct safety procedures are implemented when working with contaminated materials. Simple, accurate and easy to use, simply rub the moistened end of the swab in the Chromium-6 Detection Test Kit on the object or material in questions. A swab that remains a light orange colour indicates that there is no chromium-6 present. A swab that turns from red to purple indicates the presence of chromium 6. This colour change only occurs with chromium-6 (VI), and not with other (harmless) types of chromium such as chromium-3 (III).

How to use the test kit on paint layers for chromium-6

The test kit enables you to test a paint layer (or primer layer) for chromium-6. To do this, make a few incisions into the layer. Then sand lightly with clean sandpaper. Moisturise the end of the cotton swab with testing fluid and rub the cotton swab onto the paint layer. If the layer contains chromium-6, the cotton swab will turn purple. If no chromium-6 is present in the paint layer, the cotton swab will remain yellow/orange.

How to use the test kit to test surface contamination and dust particles for chromium-6

Chromium-6 can be present as a solution or solid and may be generated as dust, fumes or mist from workplace activities where chromates, dichromates and chromic acid is used. It is easy to check if your surface contamination or dust particles contain chromium-6 with this test kit. When a metal or stainless-steel surface is bought into contact with a lubricant, grease or anti-sieze paste it can result into surface contamination. Welding, Griding or sanding can also cause dust particles. If these surface contamination or dust particles contain chromium-6, the test will give a red/purple result. If they do not contain chromium-6, the test will give an orange result. This gives you a simple but efficient indication of whether your surfaces or dust particles are safe or not. The Chromium-6 Test Kit can also be utilised to test electrical components, impregnated wood, leather and other materials.
