Interface meters can be used in a variety of applications including the measuring depth and layer thickness of oil and water levels in monitoring wells, cisterns, and tanks, detecting tank leakage as well as obtaining accurate measurement of water levels to help determine flow direction, changes in gradients and seasonal fluctuations as part of a groundwater sampling study. They can also be used to determine amounts of floating Light Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (LNAPLs) and Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (DNAPLs).
The general working principles of all interface meters is that as the probe on the interface meter is lowered down a well. Once the probe contacts the product layer (non-conductive liquid), a tone and light such as the green LED on the Geotech Interface Meters will activate on the reel. When the probe detects water, a conductive liquid, the tone changes, e.g., to an oscillating tone on the Geotech unit, and the light changes once again, e.g. to red to indicate the water layer.
Air-Met Scientific’s range of interface meters
Air-Met Scientific offer a variety of industry preferred interface meters for sale or rental to suit your site monitoring requirements. Our product range includes:
- Geotech Interface Meters: Designed to accurately measure the depth and thickness of oil and water layers in spaces as small as ¾ inch inner diameter, the interface meter’s probe has been designed with dual sensor technology to distinguish hydrocarbons from conductive fluid layers. Simple and easy to use, the Geotech Interface Meters feature engineer-grade tape with highly visible markings, power-saving auto-sleep mode and has been constructed to withstand the harshest of field conditions. Available in a variety of tape lengths, the Geotech Interface Meter is available from Air-Met for sale or rental.
- Solinst Model 122 Interface Meter: The Solinst Interface Meter makes the determination of LNAPL and DNAPL quick and easy with a factory sealed pressure proof (up to 500psi) probe and a range of tape lengths to suit your monitoring applications. Designed for rugged field use, the Solinst Oil/Water Interface Meters provide clear and accurate measurements of product level and thickness in wells and tanks. Powered by a single 9V battery, the interface meter offers 120 hours of operation with clear signals and high accuracy and feature an automatic shut off after 10 minutes.
