Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week 2019

It’s Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week

Carbon monoxide is not just an industrial hazard. It's a silent household killer too. For Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week, we urge you to stay safe by knowing the risks.

Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas that can be emitted by everyday household appliances, meaning your health might be at risk in your own home this winter. Carbon monoxide is usually emitted at negligible levels by gas appliances – but older appliances left in bad shape can produce potentially deadly levels of carbon monoxide. That’s why it’s important to get your appliances serviced every 1-2 years – including gas heaters, boilers, central heating systems, and other gas appliances.

Certified gasfitters and gas plumbers are trained to detect and service household appliances emitting carbon monoxide and/or other harmful gases, so find a registered gasfitter near you and stay safe this winter.

Our extensive gas detection range offers options for gas plumbers and gasfitters, with lightweight and robust instruments that don't compromise on quality.

The Tango TX1 and the GasBadge Pro by Industrial Scientific are excellent gas detection options for gasfitters and plumbers. Clipped onto the front of your shirt, they can efficiently detect concentration levels for a variety of toxic gases including CO. These instruments can assist you in locating a CO leak, and also ensure the personal safety of gasfitters by monitoring CO exposure over the course of a day.

Our General Gas Knowledge Database also contains useful information for industry professionals – including the properties of carbon monoxide, and Safe Work Australia gas safety limits. Energy Safe Victoria also has useful resources for gasfitters which can be found here.
