5G NR and Beamforming – A Hot Topic

As reported in October 2019 by Narda Safety Test Solutions, there were two unknowns in the equation for determining the maximum exposure: the extrapolation itself, and the beamforming. Finding a solution to the equation was therefore a long way off.

A new approach to determining the maximum exposure has now been proposed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This new approach suggests allocating each of the unknown factor into a separate equation.

As a result, each equation will now only have one unknown which makes determining the maximum exposure a whole lot easier.

Beamforming isn’t just a problem that is confined to 5G. It has been used for years with LTE. There have now been some attempts here to get to grips with this variable by means of spatial averaging. Beamforming was the subject of an article that was published by IEEE in December 2019, which is an absolute must to read. You can access the article on the IEEE website here.

This leaves the way free for extrapolation to maximum load, which means that the team at Narda can make the SRM-3006 5G NR capable.
