The SKC Ultra Passive (diffusive) Samplers are small "badges" that provide reliable collection of low ppb-level volatile organic compounds (VOCs) without the use of a pump.

Individual chemicals simply diffuse from the atmosphere into the sampler at a fixed rate. Analysis is by highly efficient thermal desorption with Gas Chromatograph (GC). Sampling with Ultra Passive Samplers is very easy and requires no pump or training. Simply remove the badge from its pouch, record sampling information, remove the cover lock and cover, and clip to a worker's collar near the breathing zone. When sampling is complete, record pertinent information, unclip the sampler from the worker's collar, and seal the sampler with the cover and cover lock. Place sampler back into its pouch, seal it, package it, and send to a laboratory for desorption and analysis.

Thermal desorption techniques offer greatly improved analytical sensitivity. The collected sample is not diluted by a solvent and, in most cases, analytical recovery is so close to 100% that desorption efficiency corrections are not required.
